Resource Overview

“Up, Up, and Graphed!” Coordinate Plane Hot Air Balloon Craft

This hands-on craft turns coordinate plane practice into an exciting 3D hot air balloon project! With four unique sides, students apply geometry and graphing skills in a real-world context — and create a colorful display for your classroom.

✨ What’s Included:

Four sides of learning and creativity:

Labeling the Coordinate Plane – Students identify the x-axis, y-axis, origin, and quadrants I–IV.

Drawing & Naming Shapes – Plot given points and discover the shapes they form.

Area & Perimeter Practice – Analyze a shape to calculate area and perimeter.

Real-Life Balloon Path – Students plot a balloon’s flight using coordinate pairs and describe its journey with context clues like “Takeoff Point” or “Over the School.”

Also includes:

Two size options (large and small)

Simple cutting and folding instructions

Optional string attachment for hanging

Real-World Math in Action:

Students create and analyze a flight path on a coordinate plane, reinforcing directional vocabulary and graphing skills through a realistic hot air balloon scenario.
